Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat has raised alarm bells about the rising misconduct and disciplinary cases involving Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel in the state.

Speaking after the Kelantan Police’s monthly assembly yesterday (18 June), Mohd Yusoff was quoted by BERNAMA as saying that 11 disciplinary inquiry papers and 30 investigation papers were opened between January and May this year, a clear increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Specifically, Harian Metro reported that during the same period last year, only 1 disciplinary inquiry paper and 18 investigation papers were opened.

The Kelantan Police Chief further revealed that most of the cases this year involve police personnel abusing drugs and ketum.

Mohd Yusoff thus issued a warning to all police officers in his force,

“Any police officer or personnel found involved in any of the eight identified forms of misconduct will face strict action without compromise, in line with our department’s principles of justice and transparency,”

He further emphasised that maintaining public trust hinges on the unwavering integrity of the police force.

PDRM personnel need to undergo regular psychological assessments

Besides that, Mohd Yusoff stressed the need for police personnel to undergo regular psychological assessments. These include certifications of both physical and mental fitness to ensure police officers are free from excessive stress.

This year, 5 suicide cases were reported among police personnel, none of which had prior records of psychological issues or counselling sessions.

The Kelantan Police Chief asserted,

“I urge every supervisor to be more vigilant. Even the slightest behavioural change should not be ignored. Take immediate action. Don’t underestimate the early signs of stress or depression,”
