Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan has been released from surveillance and observation by the Ministry of Health in accordance with the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

Jeffrey who is also the Keningau Member of Parliament said that he got the release letter on November 23, and it was signed by a health officer from the Lembah Pantai Health Department as reported by Bernama.

He also said that any individual quarantined can request early release but the approval will be up to the Ministry of Health and only after undergoing the necessary health examination.

“Therefore, there is no problem of non-compliance and biased issues because the initial release is not political in nature,” he said in a statement last night.

At the Dewan Rakyat sitting yesterday (24 November), opposition MPs questioned Jeffrey’s presence yesterday as he had not completed the mandatory 14-day quarantine period since arriving from Sabah.

According to the release letter, Jeffrey was required to undergo quarantine at home from November 12 to 25.

But he was released from the quarantine order two days before the expiration date after his health condition was found to be satisfactory.

The decision was made after several tests were conducted by the Ministry of Health since he arrived in Kuala Lumpur on November 12.

He also denied allegations that he was still in Sabah on November 13 and he described the allegations as malicious and intended to damage his reputation and character.
