It is the social media age now and the accessibility of the internet has prompted people to take more pictures for the sake of remembrance. During special occasions, such as convocations, the schools and universities will have photographers stationed there. Most of the time, they will offer you packages for that pitch-perfect convocation shot with an academic-looking backdrop.
This man, Irwan (@akuskizo on Twitter) was at his pre-school aged son’s graduation ceremony. It was nearing the end of the event already and parents who wanted to get their children’s pictures were heading backstage to take photos.
Mr. Irwan went to the back and bought a package. A man with his child in hand came in and asked the salesperson for the price of the packages. He specifically asked for the cheapest package and was told that it was RM20. He was silent and then he started to leave.
Mr. Irwan followed them outside, and he heard the son ask,
“Daddy, where are we going?”
“We’re going home.”
The boy looked sad and he seemed reluctant to leave. His father turned away and said that they have no money. Right at that moment, Mr. Irwan asked the boy if he wanted to take pictures like the rest of his friends, and said he would pay.
The boy’s father kept saying no and told Mr. Irwan he didn’t need to do so, but Irwan insisted and said that it’s because their sons are friends!
After taking the pictures, they stood outside the hall and the man tried to explain to something, but Irwan told him this:
“It’s ok, man. I’ve been through it. I understand.”
Right after hearing that, the man hugged Irwan and cried. After that, Irwan asked him what he does for a living, to which the dad said he is a welder. After the convocation, he would be heading to Kuala Pilah to install awnings at a house. He actually borrowed the bike that he was using from his boss specifically for his son’s convocation.
Before he left, Irwan told him this:
“You’re still young, keeping working for the sake of your family. This is all just a phase and if you work really hard, these days that seem bitter to you right now will be sweet in the future. “
That was so inspiring! We hope that the man will take the words that Irwan said to heart and use it as motivation!
