As the month of Ramadan approaches the end of the first week, things are surely tough for everyone currently under Movement Control Order (MCO) in Malaysia and Singapore’s Circuit Breaker, especially the less fortunate.

Realising that much can be done to help those in need especially since the Circuit Breaker in Singapore prohibits the opening of mosques – where each year they provide free sahur and iftar meals for the less fortunate – one student stepped up to the plate easing the plight of the less fortunate by providing free meals.

Taking to Berita Mediacorp, Ruzaini Syazwan shared his story of how he distributes 250 meals under the #UmbrellaInitiativeSG to ALL Singaporeans.

Taking donations from the community, Ruzaini delivers food daily to some 50 Singaporeans struggling to get food during the Circuit Breaker period.

Stating that the task is physically demanding, he gets up at 2.30 am to start delivering sahur meals, before preparing himself to attend online classes every Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

He also took to Instagram in an effort to further promote his cause, sharing methods on how the public can contribute and how many meals he has delivered so far.

In his interview with Berita Mediacorp, Ruzaini said, “It matters not how big of a difference you can make. Taking the initial step is more important.”

Receiving much praise from netizens, one comment from a netizen captured our attention.

“This! This is the true spirit of Zakat! Ruzaini Syazwan is more than a student, he is also a teacher! And we all need to learn from him.”

Let’s hope that Ruzaini’s efforts will spur more out there to start giving, especially to those who need it the most.
