The Selangor State Education Department (JPNS) says that school sessions in Klang will still continue as usual even though the district has been categorised as a red zone.

According to its director, Izmi Ismail, any school closure will only be carried out after receiving a recommendation from the Ministry of Health (MOH).

He said that so far, only seven classes involving two schools in Klang were closed after students and teachers were instructed to undergo home quarantine after coming into close contact with Covid-19 positive individuals, reported Bernama.

“It comprised of one Form Five class and one Form One class in SMK Pandamaran Jaya and five classes of Year Six at SK Taman Sri Andalas,” he said.

“However, we have disinfected all classes involved.”

Izmi added that the 14-day quarantine involving students and teachers of SMK Pendamaran Jaya started last Wednesday (30 September) while SK Taman Sri Andalas began on Saturday (3 October).

He assures that the schools had always followed the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the MOH and complied with all the recommendations of the District Health Office (PKD) to control the spread of Covid-19.

As of 6 October, Selangor has 232 active Covid-19 cases, including 77 individuals in Klang undergoing treatment. Any district that has 41 cases and above is categorised as a red zone.

Meanwhile, schools in other red zones such as Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Putatan, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Kunak and Semporna in Sabah have been closed.
