KL’s Curry Laksa Ranked No 2 in Ultimate List of World’s Most Authentic Culinary Experiences
Who would have thought that our local food will be listed as one of the world’s best culinary experiences?
The Malay Mail reported that the travel guide, Lonely Planet, just ranked our curry laksa – especially the ones sold in Kuala Lumpur at Madras Lane – number TWO in the master list of 500 most authentic bucket-list culinary experiences all over the world. Yep, this is legit!
The “Ultimate Eatlist” which features culinary experiences from editors, food, and travel writers in countries like Canada, Norway, North Korea, Namibia, Chile, and many more were evaluated and ranked based on the criteria mentioned below:
- Cultural importance
- The ambience of the location
So, it looks like our curry laksa was ranked No 2 in the ultimate list – which features 500 types of other cuisines – because it fits all the criteria listed above. What’s more Malaysian than curry laksa sold at a stall in an alley, amirite?
Already thinking of trying these bowls of curry goodness?
Well, the curry laksa recommended by Lonely Planet is sold at an alley (Madras Lane) just off Petaling Street in the bustling KL city. You are definitely spoilt for choice when you’re at this place because there is more than one stall that sells curry laksa on this street. Yum!
Although the lines are long and the seats are limited, that packed bowl of santan-flavoured goodness is definitely worth the wait. Trust us!
Besides being rich and creamy, this curry laksa is also loaded with other ingredients – like, brinjals, cockles, long beans, chicken, pork skin (optional), tofu puffs and a squeeze of lime – that will surely make your tummy happy and full.
One bowl of curry laksa is all it takes to put you in food coma!
Apart from Madras Lane, you can also find these delicious bowls of noodles all over KL city too!
On a side note, here are the other countries that made it among the top ten of the 500 most authentic culinary experiences, apart from our national treasure, the KL curry laksa:
- Pintxos in San Sebastian, Spain
- Curry Laksa in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
- Sushi in Tokyo, Japan
- Beef brisket in Texas, USA
- Som tum in Bangkok, Thailand
- Smorrebrod in Copenhagen, Denmark
- Crayfish in Kaikoura, New Zealand
- Bibimbap in Seoul, South Korea
- Pizza Margherita in Naples, Italy
- Dim sum in Hong Kong
Sounds so delicious!
This is exciting, isn’t it? Let us know what other Malaysian food that you think should have made it into the list!
