Since its introduction, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living’s (KPDN) Menu Rahmah initiative which offers well-balanced meals at just RM5 has been a hit with Malaysians. Now, its Minister, Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said that the initiative may be expanded to other sectors like banking and insurance.
As reported by national news agency BERNAMA, Salahuddin asserted that the government is open to expanding the “Rahmah” initiative to the banking and insurance sectors. Accordingly, KPDN will hold an engagement session with banks in the near future to discuss the matter.

Speaking to reporters yesterday (18 February 2023) during the Sarawak-state-level launch of Menu Rahmah in Kuching, the KPDN Minister said that he plans to meet with banking industry players soon. He asserted,
“For a way forward, I plan to meet with them (players in the banking industry) and hold an engagement session. Who knows, there could be certain packages offered by banks and insurance companies,”
However, Salahuddin did not elaborate further on how the Rahmah initiative would be implemented by the banking and insurance sectors. Should it follow the basic concept of Menu Rahmah, it should be participated by banking and insurance companies on a voluntary basis.
