Taking to social media, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) recently shared a video on how you can exercise your right against sellers/business owners who fail to update the price of their goods on their racks.

In the video, KPDNHEP wrote, “Consumers deserve to get the lowest price when there is a difference in prices for the same item upon checkout.”

In the video, the officer in question had taken a dishwashing soap priced at RM6.99 to the checkout counter. When checking out, the real price was revealed to actually be RM7.99.

At the cashier, the officer started fighting for his right, stating that on the rack, the item was priced at RM6.99. The cashier then checked the item and it turns out it was priced RM7.99, adding that the fault was their failure to update prices on the rack.

The officer then stated, “that is not my problem”, at the end of the video which led to the cashier finally relenting and charging him only RM6.99.

So remember, when you face the same situation, exercise your right as consumers to get the lowest price, so long as it is reasonable.
