Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) auxiliary police successfully apprehended a man suspected of trying to steal rail cables after they spotted him acting suspiciously last night in Perak.
In a statement, KTMB said the suspect was found carrying a bag containing 16mm cables measuring 20 metres, which belonged to the railway operator.

KTMB said the suspect was caught near KM181.9 in Ipoh and has since been handed over to the Ipoh Police Station for further action.
They also explained that anyone caught trespassing on KTMB premises could face prosecution under Section 126 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715), which carries a fine of up to RM1,000 upon conviction.
“This quick action helped prevent damage to infrastructure and kept train operations running smoothly,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, KTMB said that anyone who damages KTMB property, whether on purpose or by accident, could face a fine of up to RM5,000, up to three years in prison, or both under Section 128 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
KTMB also reminded the public that all railway areas are restricted zones, and trespassing or attempting theft is a serious offence.
“Any trespassing or attempted theft of rail assets is a serious offence that puts train operations and public safety at risk.”
