The new Tawar cluster has taken over the Sivangangga cluster to be a cause of worry for Malaysians. According to a statement posted on MOH’s Facebook, four of the new Tawar cluster cases were found in Kedah and an additional three people tested positive from the same cluster in Penang.

The number of active cases in the Tawar cluster is 46, making it the largest cluster in Malaysia, and the cluster has even entered the third generation.

A school in Kulim, Kedah has been ordered to close after three students and one teacher were tested positive for coronavirus. This was confirmed by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in his press conference.

Harian Metro reported that the Health DG reassured the school is currently undergoing sanitisation to curb the spread.

“We have closed the school and conducted Covid-19 screening on all students in the school. We have taken all approaches to curb this pandemic.”

He added that they hope to curb the virus transmission in the area within the next one to two weeks.

The Tawar cluster first started with a 53-year-old man attending a prayer ceremony for his deceased family member in Kedah. MOH has since carried out testing and found positive cases in three states: Kedah, Penang and Perak. As of now, 1,135 people were tested from this cluster in the involved states.
