The adorable little monster Labubu has taken China (and the world) by storm lately, and it looks like it’s not just collectors who are cashing in on the viral toy.
A whole new wave of “toy doctors” has popped up to fix these plushies when they get a little too loved.
According to a report by South China Morning Post, a guy in Shanghai, who goes by the nickname Heartman, says he’s patched up around 100 Labubus just in the past month. He said that things even got so hectic, he had to rope in his wife and upgrade to a bigger studio.
Heartman said he felt like “a doctor that mends illness and rescues life”.
Fixing a Labubu usually costs about 10% of the toy’s original price, which is pretty reasonable considering a standard one goes for 99 yuan (RM58). But on resale sites, they can go for hundreds, and even more for rarer ones.
It was also reported that on social media, there’s a growing community of fans sharing clever hacks and tutorials on how to fix up their Labubu toys, everything from buffing out scratches to fluffing up the fur to make them look brand new.
