Is there anyone to blame for the rising living costs? Do you think it’s up to us when it comes to wise financial planning to brace through this worldwide phenomenon?

As for Dato’ Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, the Leader of the Opposition, he believes that Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim is at fault for the ever-rising living costs.

During the weekend, Hamzah visited one of the local groceries to buy some basic items that the B40s use in the kitchen, such as:

  • Rice
  • Chicken
  • Cooking Oil
  • Vegetables
  • Fish
  • Other items

He was not amused with the total price because, to him, it was not cheap.

“It cost me RM220, and that was only the ingredients for 1 week.”

He clarified that the items that he purchased were enough to feed a family of 5 for 1 week, which also means they have to spend about RM880 for cooking ingredients alone in a month.

“It’s a huge amount for the B40s, and we have not taken other costs and commitments into account,” he added.

“Where are the local eggs?”

Not long ago, Dato Seri Wee Ka Siong explained in Parliament on why local eggs are much better than imported ones. However, Hamzah was shocked to see the absence of local eggs in the market.

“I did not see local eggs and cooking oil in the market. The racks were filled with imported imported and Omega eggs, which are smaller in size.”

He explained that he decided to visit the local supermarket after the 100 days of the unity government to observe, listen, and feel the complaints from the people. Hamzah made it clear that he was not impressed with what the government has achieved even after 100 days of governing the country.

He also said 50% of Malaysians agreed that the government is not handling the food supply issue well.

“Obviously, not a good start for the 10th PM. Hopefully, the ministers will come down to the field and look at the situation for themselves.”

You can watch the clip of Hamzah visiting the local supermarket below.

Fellow B40s, do you agree with Hamzah’s take on this matter? As for the others, once again, do you think there’s anyone to blame for the cost of living?
