Just yesterday (6th February), Lenovo released an announcement to inform customers that the ThinkPad X1 Carbon model is being recalled.

According to their advisory, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th Gen has been recalled due to a potential fire hazard from a defect in their laptops. An excerpt from the advisory reads,

“Lenovo has determined that a limited number of such laptops may have an unfastened screw that could damage the laptop’s battery causing overheating, potentially posing a fire hazard.”

In the Q&A section of their advisory, the company explained the extent of the flaw in these laptops, saying,

“Lenovo’s investigation and analysis determined that an unfastened, small screw, left in the unit during manufacture, could damage the surface of the lithium ion polymer battery and cause a short, leading to rapid cell discharge of the battery.”
