Most people know Jenjarom as a sleepy town, and otherwise some people don’t even know its existence.
But despite being the sleepy town it is, this place will become absolutely LIT every Chinese New Year without fail! The annual CNY Lantern & Floral Festival is once again coming back with dazzling lantern decorations all around the town’s temple!

Never heard of it? It is an annual event that usually lasts for more than two weeks brimming with majestic lantern decorations and beautiful scenery all in one place — Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple. This time, it is expected to begin on 23rd January 2020 and go on until 9th February 2020.
Although it is a temple, visitors are welcomed to witness the beauty of the decorations and the surrounding themselves.

This year is the Year of the Rat, so the theme for this CNY Lantern & Floral Festival will be featuring a floral rat sitting on top of a rotating platform. And the painting on the rat is a combination of 4 flowers: plum blossom, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo, which means “Every Journey is a Path to Prosperity”.
If you think it is just lanterns and lights decorated all around the temple? Think again! Here’s what you can anticipate from this event:
1. Instagrammable lantern and light decorations in the temple FOR FREE!
Yes, you read that right! All the lights and decorations that they have set up for the public can be experienced entirely for free! Despite the free admission, the committee there has put a tremendous amount of effort so these decorations that will surely feed your Instagram with stunning pictures. Did I forget to mention the parking here is free as well?
Not just light decors, the temple itself is a scene to behold even during the day. Come to the temple in the evening so you can fully enjoy the view of the beautiful temple bathed in natural sunlight.
2. Visit the Buddhist museum to learn about Buddhism in Malaysia

3. Colourful and vibrant costume parade in the temple
The costume parade surely brings happiness and a jolly Chinese New Year atmosphere to the visitors. Have a look at the lanterns and people marching in the parade – surely one of the few actual Chinese New Year parades anywhere around the world. Who says you only get to see parades in theme parks?

4. Featuring many cultural performances on stage

As we are living in a multiracial country, of course you’re bound to witness the colourful Chinese culture. After all, it is Chinese New Year. Come and witness the dragon dance, lion dance and singing by the talented local artists!

5. Stand a chance to win in the photography contest
Since you’re taking pictures for the ‘Gram, then don’t miss out the photography contest! Time to showcase your photography talents and skills. This is also an opportunity for you to look for hidden gems that many people wouldn’t know are within the temple. Who knows, you might even stand a chance to win something from the contest.
