Former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng was taken to the Butterworth Sessions Court today for two charges of dishonest misappropriation of property. He was charged on the count of causing two lots of land owned by the Penang state government to be disposed to a developer. The two lots mentioned amounted to a total of RM208.8 million.

The 60-year-old politician pleaded not guilty to both of the charges, reported Astro Awani.

The first charge states that Lim Guan Eng dishonestly misappropriated a property (Lot Tanah No. H.S.(D) 18801, No. PT Lot 702 Seksyen 1, Bandar Tanjong Pinang, Daerah Timor Laut, Pulau Pinang) leading to the disposal of state land worth RM135,086,094 to a company called Ewein Zenith Sdn Bhd. This took place on the 21st floor of KOMTAR, at the Lands & Mines Office on 17 February 2015.

The second charge is of a similar nature but this time, it’s with this lot (Lot Tanah No.H.S.(D) 19318, No. PT Lot 10012 Seksyen 1, Bandar Tanjong Pinang, Daerah Timor Laut) worth RM73,668,986 to Zenith Urban Development Sdn Bhd. This incident took place at the same location as before but it was dated to 22 March 2017.

He was charged under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which provides an imprisonment for up to five years and whipping, as well as fine, upon conviction.
