Authorities have taken into custody the driver of a lorry involved in a tragic accident at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza which claimed the life of a toddler and left seven others injured.

Initial investigations revealed that the 42-year-old driver has a prior criminal history, including a drug-related offence, along with four outstanding traffic summonses. Despite this, both his urine and breathalyser tests came back negative.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed that the lorry experienced a brake failure while en route from Semenyih to Putrajaya at approximately 10:50 AM. The malfunction caused the driver to lose control, crashing into three vehicles at lanes eight and nine of the toll plaza.

Tragically, a one-year-old boy died at the scene. The injured victims were transported to Kajang Hospital, Serdang Hospital, and KPJ Kajang Specialist Hospital for treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death. If convicted, the driver could face up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to RM50,000, and a minimum five-year driving ban.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and contact Inspector Mohd Raziman Rasid at 019-4565502 or report to the nearest police station.
