On November 9, 2023, the High Court sentenced Syed Saddiq to seven years in jail, two strokes of the cane, and a RM10 million fine after he was found guilty of four charges.

Today (June 25), the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya cleared him of all four charges, namely criminal breach of trust, misuse of property, and money laundering involving Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (ARMADA) funds.

MACC to file appeal against court verdict

In response, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will be filing an appeal against the Court of Appeal’s decision to acquit the Muar MP, according to Berita Harian.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the move during a press conference at the commission’s headquarters today.

“I’ve been informed by the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) about today’s decision. I’m not disappointed or happy that Syed Saddiq was freed, but we will appeal to the Federal Court.,” he said.

“I don’t take anything personally”

When asked if he was disappointed with the verdict, given the investigation carried out by his team, he said otherwise.

“I don’t take anything personally. There’s no feeling of disappointment or satisfaction when it comes to investigating any case,” he said.

Earlier, WORLD OF BUZZ reported that the decision was made by a panel of three Court of Appeal judges: Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, Datuk Azman Abdullah, and Datuk Noorin Badaruddin.

While reading out the judgment, Judge Noorin said the charge of abetting criminal breach of trust against Syed Saddiq was unfounded. He explained that the prosecution failed to prove Syed Saddiq had any dishonest intent when he ordered RM1 million to be withdrawn from the Armada fund.
