People love looking at colourful things, especially those that look magical when you photograph them. Doing it for the ‘gram yo!
You only have to look at the success of rainbow cakes, rainbow bagels, Starbucks unicorn frappucino or basically any colourful thing and you will soon see it popping up all over your news feed.
And if you are a fan of all things bright and beautiful, then you should head over to Kampung Pelangi in Indonesia, which has quickly gone viral for its rainbow-coloured village. Yes, you read that right. It’s an ENTIRE village in rainbow colour!
Originally known as Kampung Wonosari, the tiny village is located in Randusari, South Semarang and after its amazing makeover, it is now known as Rainbow Village. That’s because almost every exterior of the village looks like it has been touched by some serious unicorn magic, including the over 200 homes here.
The village makeover was the result of a brainstorm of the local government in order to attract more tourists to the little village and it seems that it worked, because judging by the number of Instagram photos, tourism to Kampung Pelangi certainly skyrocketed.
They set aside 300 million rupiah (RM97,456) initially for the project and the aim of the project was to paint each building in at least three different colours. Not only that, the village was also covered in various murals of all patterns and colours to make it look more eye-catching.
The resounding success of the project proves that us humans just love to look at pretty things and the government already plans to expand the project to beautify many more homes. So that you can have much more places to take that perfect Instagram photo and make all your friends envious!
BRB, planning my next trip already!
