One of the most famous fruits in Malaysia is none other than the king of fruits itself, the durian of course.
We know this fruit evokes a strong reaction from people, either you love it or hate it, there’s no in between!

Malaysia also exports this spiky fruit to China, but only in its frozen form because we currently do not have the permit to export fresh durians there yet. But a special permit has been given for fresh durians to be exported to China at last.
Don’t get excited too fast, because this permit is only for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s working visit to China recently.
According to the Star, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said, “We call it the ‘musang king diplomacy’.”

In the shipment of fresh durians this time, the Malaysian convoy will be specially presenting 43 durians to the Chinese leaders to celebrate 43 years of China-Malaysia ties since 31 May 1974.
The special batch of durians were sent over to Guangdong’s port and arrived a few days ago. It will then be transported to Beijing for the Chinese leaders to enjoy.
Our beloved king of fruits are well-loved by the Hong Kong people as well, as it is reported that one fruit can fetch up to RM800. Shabery also said that if fresh durians were allowed to be exported to China, it could reach a price of RM200 to RM300 per kilo. That’s crazy expensive!

Xi Jinping, China’s president plans to achieve this by building an unbroken chain of modern infrastructure such as ports and railways.
