Malaysia managed to garner 183 votes to fill one of the 18 seats of the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2022 to 2024. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob shared the good news on his official Facebook page. He wrote,
“Malaysia’s success in occupying the seat of the UN Human Rights Council is a great achievement and a recognition of the status of human rights of our beloved country.”

He elaborated that Malaysia is ready to play an active role such as being a facilitator for peace talks, an enabler of cooperation and a consensus builder. According to him, Malaysia will work closely with UN state members to advance the human rights agenda at the global level as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He clarified that as all the countries formulate the groundwork for sustainable and inclusive recovery after the pandemic, human rights must be a priority in all the efforts.
