Donating blood is a truly charitable initiative that most healthy adults are in a position to do, and will benefit many of those who are in dire need of it in hospitals across the country. Despite that however, it was revealed by Health Director-General that our local blood banks have seen a whopping 40% decrease in supply since the MCO was implemented.
And the reality of this fact is difficult to ignore, when even blood banks now are making public appeals for people to come in and donate their blood for use in hospitals, after local blood bank Derma Darah HTAR (Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital) revealed on their Facebook that they are beginning to run dangerously low on stock for Type-A blood.
In their post, which has since gone viral over social media, the admin of Derma Darah HTAR revealed that the current inventory of their blood packs shows that they are quickly running out of Type-A blood.
Photos that accompany the post show empty refrigerated storage units meant to be used for blood, and another refrigerated unit with around eight packs of Type-A blood remaining.
The admin has also added that the public may reach out to donate blood at their blood bank between 8am to 10pm, or choose to head to Aeon Bukit Tinggi where their blood donation drive will be open between 10am to 9pm.
But what makes this truly amazing is that the moment the Facebook post went viral, Malaysians who were living around the area went to donate blood without hesitation, with the blood bank able to collect as many as 96 bags of blood with help from the public!
However, continued donations are as always, still welcomed. So if you’re living around the Klang area, be sure to stop by if you can to lend a hand! You never know how your blood could help save someone else’s life.
