Some people would double check the big notes such as RM50 and RM100 upon receiving them. I don’t know about you but it usually doesn’t occur to me to go through each of my big notes to see if it’s fake or not. But we might need to now!
On January 21, a Malaysian netizen, Chloe Ng took it to Facebook after receiving a fake RM50 note at night market, Sinchew reported. Apparently it wasn’t the first fake RM50 note she had received before and most of them came from the night market.
According to Sinchew, the fake notes and the real ones aren’t too much different from each other at first glance. However, if you took a closer look at it, you’ll notice the slight difference in terms of appearance, colour, quality and water mark between the two.
Chloe has recorded a video showing herself ‘dissecting’ the fake note. The note is fabricated by gluing two sides of the note from the middle. As such, they can be separated by peeling off one side.
Netizens were shocked when they saw how easily the fake note was pulled into two pieces.
Sin Chew also stated that there was a video which was posted back in 2015 which revealed that the silver strip on the note can be scraped off. So that’s one of the ways you can test if your note is fake or not. Of course, there may be different and more ‘sophisticated’ fake notes produced.
This wasn’t the first case of Malaysians receiving fake notes. Not so long ago, another Malaysian allegedly received a fake RM100 note when withdrawing money from a bank counter.
So guys, it’s not a myth or hoax anymore. The counterfeit notes have seeped into our market and consumers are receiving them unknowingly. Be sure to check the big notes guys!
