In a report by The New Straits Times, a terrorist from Malaysia has recently been marked on local police’s most wanted list and has now also been sanctioned by the United States Treasury.
26 year-old Muhammad Wanndy Mohamed Jedi is now on the list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists of the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
This means that he is now one of Washington’s most wanted terrorists.
The Specially Designated Global Terrorist list includes names of individuals who are thought to pose a high risk of engaging in terrorist acts, or have supported terrorist groups listed under OFAC Counter Terrorism Sanctions programmes.
Wanndy is one of the key members of the Islamic State’s (IS) Southeast Asian division and has been recruiting members and collecting funds to support the infamous terrorist group.
He was also one of the terrorists responsible for the attack on Movida nightclub in Puchong last June.
The list also includes other Malaysians, Yazid Sufaat and Zulkifli Hir, who was believed to have been killed by security forces from the Philippines in 2015.
The New Straits Times also reported that Wanndy is now aware that he has been sanctioned by the United States authorities. He has made fun of the sanction, but said he would be more careful about his movements and communications from now on.
