Our Malaysian Team Just Won Their First Gold Medal in the 29th SEA Games!
In case you didn’t know, the 29th edition of the SEA Games will officially kick off on 19 August and will close on our National Day on 31 August. Even though we are still days ahead before it commences, our Malaysians have already made the country proud by bagging the first gold medal in the games! Woo-hoo!
According to MMO, our home-grown sportsmen won first place in the men’s chinlone linking competition on Wednesday. The final match was held at the Titiwangsa Indoor Stadium on Wednesday as the chinlone team, headed by Muhammad Faiz Roslan led Malaysia to victory. #MalaysianPride
The rest of the team, which consisted of Mohammad Kamal Aizat Azmi, Ab Muhaimi Che Bongsu, Putera Aidil Israfi Kamaruzaman, Muhamad Asyraaf Abd Hadi, Izuan Afendi Azlan, Mohd Nazuha Mohd Nadzli and Iskandar Zulkarnain Salim were bursting with energy as they emerged the victors with a score of 391 points.
Philippines, who is in second place, had a score of 271 points while Brunei walked away with the bronze medal. However, amidst all the excitement, you may be wondering what chinlone is and how it is played, as you may not have heard much about the sport.
It is actually one of Myanmar’s traditional sports involving a caneball and is similar to sepak takraw. I’m sure you know what that is! A team usually consists of six players in a circle who utilise their skills and ability to juggle and balance the ball.
This game is relatively new in the SEA Games as it made its debut in Myanmar in 2013. Nevertheless, what makes this year’s win more memorable is that Malaysia has never won gold for this event before. The national squad will be competing in the non-repetition primary, same stroke and non-repetition event secondary categories as well.
Listen to the Negaraku being played after their win:
Congratulations, Team Malaysia! Continue making our country proud with those shiny golden medals!
