Wow, this is an amazing achievement!
Our amazing ladies knocked their rival team, Singapore, out of the park with the perfect score of 12-o during the women’s FIH (International Hockey Federation) Series Finals hockey tournament.
The Star wrote that the Malaysian team beat Singapore’s hockey team in Group A’s second match of the hockey competition at the Banbridge Hockey Club, Ireland.
The extraordinary win was a testimony to ladies’ great teamwork and effort. The report revealed that Nuraini Rashid scored a beautiful hat-trick during the 12th, 28th and 35th minute. Meanwhile, Siti Zulaikha Husain scored two goals for the team during the 42nd and 47th minute.
In the game which took place on Monday (10th June 2019 – Malaysian time), the other seven goals that put a stamp on Malaysia’s dominant performance were scored by the amazing ladies mentioned below:
- Hanis Nadia Onn – 9th minute
- Surizan Awang Noh – 19th minute
- Kirandeep Kaur – 21st minute
- Nurmaizatulhanim Syafi – 39th minute
- Fazilla Sylvester – 44th minute
- Norfaezah Saiauti – 51st minute
- Norsharina Shabuddin – 60th minute
This victory is made even sweeter because it is actually Malaysia’s win in Ireland and currently, our women hockey team are the top scorers of Group A with 13 goals in total.
In another group A match, Ireland beat the Czech Republic 8-1 as Ireland maintained their position atop the group with a total of 6 points. Next, Malaysia will meet the Czech Republic – the world’s no 19 hockey team – in a game with a place in the semi-finals on the line. Following that, the group winners will go head-to-head in the semi-finals. Sounds exciting!
That said, the second and third place teams from each group will play for a spot in the two remaining semi-final places.
As an added incentive for the athletes competing, the finalists of the competition will secure a spot in the play-off qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. We hope our women’s hockey team will make it!
We are extremely proud of our ladies, and we send our appreciation for making Malaysia look good on the world stage. On that note, we wish them luck in their upcoming matches! #MalaysiaBoleh
