Turtle eggs are still unfortunately considered a delicacy in Malaysia despite these creatures becoming severely endangered.
What’s even more unfortunate is the fact that people are finding ways to sell these turtle eggs across state borders even though the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) is still active.
The Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia took to their Twitter page to showcase turtle eggs being sold via online shopping platforms, while urging these platforms to filter whats sold through their channels.
Ya Allah! Musim PKP ini lah di mana banyak ibu penyu naik mendarat. Tapi jenis kita ni, nak je jual/beli semua telur penyu. Tak kisah lah, samada penyu hidup atau pupus. Biar makan dulu.

They wrote, “My God! This CMCO season is when many mother turtles are laying their eggs. But we as humans just wants to sell and buy turtle eggs. It doesn’t matter, if the turtles live or go extinct. As long as we get to eat first. We hope online shopping platforms filter their customers.”
Granted, online platforms find it increasingly hard to filter these type of accounts. So, as consumers, do not support in the first place. Because with no demand, there will be no supply.
Thankfully, the seller on the online shopping platform has been reported and their page has been taken down, but that doesn’t mean that there are no more out there utilising online platforms to sell turtle eggs.
We genuinely urge the general public to refrain from purchasing and eating turtle eggs and we urge the authorities to put a permanent stop of the sale of turtle eggs.
Let’s also not forget that the whole reason we’re in this Covid-19 mess is because humans were eating animals that we shouldn’t be eating.
