Who says there’s no such thing as a free lunch? Just come to Malaysia because this particular restaurant will be serving free food for the next three years!
Yup, FREE FOOD. Have we gotten your attention yet? 😉
Well, if you’re wondering what’s the catch, apparently there is none. The restaurant, which launches today, is called Gabungan NGO 1Malaysia and is opened by Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos, MalaysiaKini reported.

The inception of the restaurant came about when Jamal realised that material wealth is not something that can be brought to the afterlife after one dies.
“This realisation came from my friend who died two months ago. After I buried him, that’s when the realisation came,” he told the daily.
His aim is also to feed underprivileged Malaysians and as such, hopes that his restaurant will receive wide publicity.
The free meals will be served at lunch time, from 11am to 3pm, to the first 1,000 people daily for three years starting today.

During the launch of the newly-opened restaurant, Jamal said that it allocates a budget of RM5,000 per day, an amount that’s donated by himself and a few corporate friends who do not wish to be named.
According to FMT, the restaurant, which is manned by 15 volunteers, is located next to the McDonald’s outlet in Jalan Pahang, with another branch opening in Sekinchan on October 25th.
Wondering what will be on the menu? Well, they’ll be serving a rotating menu comprising local dishes like spicy chicken in tomato sauce (ayam masak merah), fish curry, fried fish, fish sambal, boiled corn, nasi minyak, plain white rice and vegetables.

“We have a different menu for each day to serve Malaysians from all walks of life. That is the muhibah (goodwill) concept,” he explained.
Moreover, if you dine here, you better finish all your food because wastage is a big no-no since they practise an “all you can eat without waste” policy. Plus, you’ll also be required to wash your own dishes! #SelfService

Following the recent incident where Jamal smashed bottles of beer in a protest against the Selangor government, many claimed that his new “free meals” project is a scheme to win over votes in lieu of the upcoming 14th general election.
However, Jamal has denied the claims and said that there is no political motivation behind the debut of his “free restaurant” other than for the goodwill of others.
