Previously, we shared how Thailand is officially bringing back the tourism tax imposed on foreign nationals, including Malaysians, visiting the country by the end of 2025.
Well, the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports has given an update on the matter, announcing that the implementation of the tourism tax, known locally as “Kha Yeap Pan Din” (literally translated as “stepping onto Thai soil” fee) will be postponed to mid-2026 instead.

Thai-based publication The Nation quoted Thai Assistant Minister of Tourism and Sports Chakrapol Tangsutthitham as saying that the decision was made following a review by Thai Minister of Tourism and Sports Sorawong Thienthong, who deemed the current timing as inappropriate for the reintroduction of the fee.
Chakrapol added that the Ministry is waiting to assess international tourist demand during the upcoming high season in the 4th quarter of 2025 before determining an appropriate fee structure based on the mode of travel.
Currently, the Ministry is planning to charge a THB300 or RM39 fee for arrivals by air and a THB150 or RM20 fee for arrivals via land or sea. This amount was approved in principle by the Thai Cabinet in February 2023.
With the delay, the Kha Yeap Pan Din fee will be enforced either in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2026.
