Announced via the Ministry of Health’s Facebook page, Health Minister Datuk Seri Adham Baba announced the proposed conversion of the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) into a temporary makeshift hospital as a precautionary measure to house Covid-19 patients.
Stating that the development of the temporary hospital is aimed at catering to the increase in cases, the project currently coordinated by the National Disaster Management Agency will be ready by today.
Consisting of 600 beds, the makeshift hospital will be divided into Hall A (400 beds) and Hall B (200 beds), catering to asymptomatic or mild symptom patients.
In a statement released via NST, Ministry of Health Director-general Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, “Currently, there is a sufficient number of beds in our existing hospitals. We expect a surge in cases by mid-April.”
“It is better to be over-prepared than under-prepared. Underprepared means unprepared.”
Currently, there are a total of 5,292 beds nationwide, comprising of 3,400 beds in hospitals and 1,892 beds at the health ministry’s training institutes.
