It’s only natural for us to dispose of the rubbish appropriately to maintain the hygiene of a place, but sadly, some people are still littering and expect others to clean after them.
Malaysia’s highest elevated highway, The Bukit Kukus paired road has been open to traffic since 13 January. Initially, there were people who parked by the road illegally to take pictures of the scenic view. However, that was not the end of the road users creating nuisance.
Yesterday (25 January), the Penang City Council shared a post via their Facebook account and informed that the cleaners have been instructed to clear the rubbish that was thrown by road users.
“We are truly disappointed with road users who threw these garbage out of their vehicles without guilt and shame when they were driving.”
They also said that some road users are being selfish by endangering others just for a few photos and selfies. The act of parking the vehicles by the road on the highway is not only illegal but also dangerous. Aside from taking photos, some of them who stopped by the road for the view also left their rubbish there.
According to a report by SinChew, there was even an unfinished drink left by the road.
“This is a form of disrespect towards the beauty of the nature and the comfort of other road users,” Penang City Council added.
In their post, they also urged the people and road users to make it a habit to dispose of rubbish in an appropriate manner and in the right place. For safety purposes, people are also reminded to not stop their vehicles by the roadside.
It is saddening that some of us still need to be “educated” on maintaining the cleanliness of a place. Regardless of the place we visit, it’s our responsibility to keep it clean for the convenience and comfort of other users. Be considerate and have some common sense.
