The world would be a better place if we put our phones down and started caring for people around us, including strangers we don’t know.
A Twitter user, Amir Kamarulzaman (@amirkamarulzmn), shared how he was inspired by a kind man he saw at IOI City Mall.
“I was impressed by a conversation between a guy and the washroom cleaner at IOI City. He was mad concerned as asked the cleaner ‘Have you eaten?’, ‘How long is your shift?’, ‘Is everything OK?’. It seemed like he genuinely wanted to help, and not just having small talk. I keep thinking about this ever since.”

After witnessing the caring act, Amir wanted to apply it in his own life. He saw a makcik cleaner sweeping trash on the streets one morning, and he went up to her to ask if she had her breakfast. She answered “no” while looking sweaty under the hot weather. Not long after that, Amir bought mineral water, canned drinks, as well as bread from a convenience store and them to the makcik.
The most rewarding feeling was when he saw a huge smile plastered on the makcik’s face, and he immediately felt that his day was made. He made it clear that he wasn’t trying to tell everyone that he’s a good person, instead, he wanted to let us know that we should all do the same.
Netizens were moved by his deeds, some of them shared similar experiences, while others praised his actions. The good deeds may seem small, but it means a whole lot to the people on the receiving end.
It’s interesting to see how good deeds can inspire others to do good too! It’s definitely food for thought and makes us pay attention to how our actions affect others, and vice versa.
