It truly would be heartbreaking to lose your camera, especially after taking countless pictures to memorialise your trip to a foreign country.

That’s exactly what happened to a French couple, as their camera was found deep in a forest at Perhentian Island, Terengganu, four years after their trip.

Meigo Märk took to his Facebook page to share the amazing story of how he found their camera and managed to track them down in order to return their memories to them.

He initially wrote, “I am looking for a French-speaking couple who travelled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, four years ago on 29 July, 2017. They lost their camera in Perhentian Island on 8 August, 2017. I found that camera deep in the forest and the SD card was still working. I would like to share with them over 1,900 amazing travel photos that they took. Please share this post with your French-speaking friends and help to find them!”

Meigo shared with WORLD OF BUZZ that he figured they were French as the camera settings were in French.

“That is why I suspected that they were French because the menu and settings of the camera were set to French. But, they could have also been from Canada or other French-speaking countries,”

“After finding the camera, I contacted a hotel that I saw in their photos but nobody from the hotel management could recognise them,” he said.

But, it turns out that he had found the camera just months after the couple had lost it, in 2017, when Meigo was conducting a 20,000 km walk through 22 countries.

“I tried to track the couple down in 2017 by contacting the many hostels and hotels where they stayed but I failed to find them. I really wanted to find them but basically, I had given up already,”

“But, just two days ago, I suddenly realised that I should make a public post and hope that at least maybe a few people would share it, and hoped that somehow, it would reach some French people and communities and someone would recognise them,” he added.

And lo and behold, it only took 10 hours to find the couple!

“We found them! Anthøny and Julie from France. A million thank yous to all the people who helped and for over 1,000 shares! It took us 10 hours to find them,”

“On 5 August, 2017, they participated in a cooking class by Nazlina Hussin in Penang Island, Malaysia. Nazlina recognised them and she still had their e-mail addresses. Please check out Nazlina’s amazing cooking page,” he added to his post.

Anthøny also shared that the camera was allegedly stolen while they were in Perhentian Island.

Unfortunately, due to the damage the camera endured while lying in a forest during heavy rains, it couldn’t be repaired.

“I later tried to fix the camera at an official centre, but the damage was too much and most of the internal parts needed replacements, which would cost almost the same as a new camera,”

“But, I was very determined to at least find the couple and share with them their very beautiful 1,912 travel photos and memories,” he added.

We’re truly happy that the couple got their pictures back, after all, a trip to Malaysia isn’t complete without thousands of gorgeous pictures to memorialise it.

Kudos, Meigo! You pulled off a miracle!
