A man who returned from Sabah to Melaka was recently fined RM1,000 after he was caught working at his company’s premises while wearing a pink quarantine bracelet.
It was later discovered that he had been working at the site for four days despite knowing that he was supposed to self-isolate upon return from the state. The man pleaded guilty today (19 October) at the Melaka Magistrate Court and was charged to a 14-day prison sentence on top of the RM1,000 fine, as reported by Sin Chew Daily.
During the court session, it was revealed that the 32-year-old defendant was expected to stay at home from 28 September to 11 October after his return from Sabah. However, the defendant returned to work the next day on 29 September and was reported to authorities four days later.

After the judge spoke to the defendant concerning the consequences of possibly infecting others, he gave the sentence which starts today. If the defendant is unable to pay the fine, he will be faced with an additional week of jail time.
As of now, Sabah is still the state with the highest recorded positive Covid-19 testings. Out of the 871 reported infections yesterday, 702 of these cases were from Sabah, followed by Selangor with 77 cases.
