Making jokes is a part of everyday life and if jokes didn’t exist, you’d have to admit that life would be kind of boring. However, jokes have to be made at the right time and at the right place, or you could face dire consequences.
This was what happened to an airline passenger who was about to board a flight to Kuala Lumpur on the afternoon of 28th May, reported The Borneo Post.
He was asked about the contents of his luggage during check-in by airline staff, to whom he made a joke, saying that he was carrying a bomb inside.
This led him to be arrested by the police as making jokes about bombs at an airport is against the law.
Kuching District Police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani confirmed his arrest and mentioned that “the 28-year-old suspect is currently under arrest to aid in investigations.”
He added that even though it doesn’t seem to make sense to get arrested for joking about bombs at airports, this incident should serve as a good lesson to be taken by all.
“The airport is a high security area and the implications of the joke can cause fear and panic among passengers or ground staff who are within earshot when it was uttered,” he said.
The case will be investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or with a fine. or both, and Section 10 (3) of the Civil Aviation Offences Act 1984 for endangering or being likely to endanger the safety of an aircraft.
Remember guys, keep your jokes to yourself when you’re at the airport, especially those about bombs or anything that can cause harm to people. Better to be safe than sorry!
