A friend in need is a friend indeed. But, what if that friend owes you over RM46,000 and you haven’t seen him for more than 2 decades?
That’s the situation that this man from Thailand found himself in for the past 22 years, though there’s no malice or ill will involved.
On the contrary, the man and his friend lost contact after going their separate ways 22 years ago in New York, USA where the Thai man was working as a head chef earning USD6,000/week.
Prior to that, the friend, whose nationality was not revealed, had borrowed USD10,000 or approximately RM46,790 from him but didn’t get the chance to repay the loan because they lost contact as both had changed their phone numbers.
Well, that is until recently because as fate would have it, the 2 old friends somehow bumped into each other at Bangkok’s Siam Paragon Mall of all places.
A random meeting by chance, the 2 reunited and caught up after 22 years of lost contact. Taking to his TikTok account @kanokyai2022, the Thai man shared that his friend hadn’t forgotten about the loan that he owed him.
In fact, his friend repaid him in full with USD bills afterwards, as seen in one of @kanokyai2022’s latest TikTok videos.
In the video, his friend can be seen showing a stack of USD100 bills amounting to USD10,000 inside a car before giving it to @kanokayai2022 who was in the driver’s seat. Afterwards, the Thai man brought the bills to a money changer and converted them to Thai Baht.
Overlaid on the video is a series of text in which @kanokyai2022 wrote,
“The world is round haha. Unbelievable. A friend who once borrowed money from me 22 years ago, when I was living in New York came to see me and repaid the money (he borrowed from me).”
“The world is crazy. It’s really round.”
