It’s normal to see a school bus or private van pull over at the entrance of a school but this is really next level wei!
Recently, a video clip went viral on social media and it showed footage of a helicopter flying in the air before landing on school grounds. However, it wasn’t just a random landing because it was actually sent over by one student’s father! This incident took place at Fengdan primary school in Beijing’s Haidian district, which is where China’s top universities are located, The Star reported.
The man, surnamed Chen, has a daughter who is in first grade in that school and though he has been accused of flaunting his wealth, he has defended himself saying that the reason he sent the helicopter there is solely for educational purposes.
In fact, he told local media that his company offers helicopter tours around China’s capital and that the school had invited him to take part in its science and technology fair. Hence, by having the helicopter on school grounds, he said it would help the children have a better understanding of the theory of gravity when he explains to them about the concept and how helicopters fly. He was quoted as saying,
“I hope to give more children an opportunity to see helicopters up close, and spark an interest in aviation in some of them.”
Other parents were also supportive of this initiative and said, “As a parent of kids studying in Fengdan primary school, I’m actually very happy. Children can have an opportunity to take a close look at helicopters and get some knowledge about the theories behind them. That’s really great.”
On the contrary, netizens who saw the clip circulating on social media were not too amused. They thought that the girl’s father was simply using this opportunity to show off how wealthy he is. One Weibo user said, “Poverty limited my imagination… The wealth gap is getting larger and larger.”
Well, apparently this isn’t the first time that a parent is being accused of showing off their wealth because in the past, others have been slammed for the same reason. For instance, one father faced a social boycott last October because he refused to use a less expensive car to send his son to school other than his Ferrari.
What do you think of this incident? Do you think it’s a great initiative to aid the students’ learning?
