Staying home during the Movement Control Order (MCO) just got a little easier as everybody will now have access to 1GB worth of free data every day. Free data to take off your mind from the MCO blues!
This plan is set to take place on the 1st of April 2020 and it was announced in the Economic Stimulus Package last week (27th of March 2020).
All telecommunications (Telco) service providers are taking part in this initiative to ensure continuous interaction with their users during the MCO.
Telco providers such as Celcom Axiata Berhad (Celcom), Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi), Maxis Berhad (Maxis), U Mobile Sdn Bhd (U Mobile), Telekom Malaysia Berhad and TIME dotcom Berhad (Time) have put together a special team in place during the restricted movement period to continue their customer service.
According to Harian Metro, all local telco companies will be providing free internet to their customers worth more than RM600 Million!
Everyone can access the free data by redeeming it through their service providers or they can also contact the customer service for further information.
The public should take note that this free high speed 1GB data is only accessible from 8.00am to 6.00pm daily.
The Star reported that Telekom Malaysia (TM) and Time are supporting the mobile operators by providing additional fibre capacity to serve higher demands.
Here are some of the benefits:
- Free data can be utilised for tethering or sharing with others via a mobile hotspot
- It can only be used domestically and not for international roaming
- All users will also get free calls to the national and state-level Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre hotlines
Once the daily 1GB data has been fully utilised, users will be notified via text message (SMS).
Following this initiative, telco companies are also working on helping the families of B40 category by coming up with a comprehensive plan which will be announced in the near future.
