13 January marks the first day the MCO was re-implemented. This time, it’s a more targeted approach with only a few states involved. The duration is from 13 January to 26 January.

In his press conference, Health Director-General has expressed that they are now on the right track and urges all Malaysians to stay at home if they can and abide by all SOPs if they have to go out.

Dr. Noor Hisham has also said that the MCO will be implemented for two weeks first. The ministry will also be monitoring the developments in the coming two weeks and the data will justify if there is a need for an extension. They estimate that they will be able to flatten the curve by the month of May.

The Health Director-General then said that the ministry hopes that the MCO will help to flatten the curve in the next four to five weeks as the main aim is to reduce the number of patients. Dr. Noor Hisham also hopes that by that time, the number of new cases per day will be less than 500 cases. Once it reaches that point, it will take time to gradually go down.

He said that the government implemented the CMCO till now but the results were less than satisfactory. Drastic measures in the form of an MCO needed to be taken.

Dr Noor Hisham expects the MCO to take place anywhere between the period of two weeks to a maximum of four weeks as the longer it extends, the bigger impact to the economy.

He added that if all Malaysians can stay at home, the chain of infection can be broken.

Please stay at home if you can and abide by the SOPs when you need to go out. Time is crucial now and we all need to play a part to protect ourselves and our loved ones!
