Popularly known as ‘Hero Malaya’ or ‘the 10-sen man’, Kuan Chee Heng is a favourite social activist among the locals for his selfless community work for those in need, regardless of race and religion.
With a string of initiatives under his belt such as ‘Ambulance 10 Sen’, ‘Pasar 10 Sen’, ‘Teksi 10 Sen’, and ‘RM1 House’, the founder of the Community Policing Malaysia (COPs) organisation has a latest addition to his list!
Introducing ‘Perkhidmatan Van Jenazah RM1’, the new service that picks up and sends bodies of the deceased from Hospital Serdang, National Cancer Institute and Kuala Lumpur Hospital to anywhere in Peninsular Malaysia.
According to his Facebook post on April 6, the idea of this service struck him when he received a call from a man who had lost his father.
The man was unable to retrieve the body due to the unpaid bills owed to the hospital. Eventually, the hospital allowed the man and his family to pay within their means, but there was a problem. The body had to be transported from Kuala Lumpur to Johor.
“From that day onwards, I knew I had to start a funeral transportation service to help such people,” he wrote.
Kuan’s intention came into action with the contribution of Dato Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Petron Malaysia for the van and fuel respectively. The remaining costs such as accommodation and food are covered by the donations from the public.
If you know someone in need of this service, you may reach out to Kuan at 03-2718 1783 or 012-273 2148.
Kudos to Mr Kuan for this noble deed and thank you so much!
