So, yesterday morning we woke up to some sad news from Microsoft as they announced that one of our childhood staples, the MS Paint program is on the list of features that are to be removed or deprecated in the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update in September. 🙁

People all over the world mourned the loss of this iconic image editing program, which has been around since 1985, and shared their memories using memes that were of course, drawn using MS Paint! Do you still remember spending your free time on the computer creating your own “masterpiece”? We were all mini artists-in-the-making!
In fact, it has affected people so much that it even sparked an online petition called “Don’t Kill Microsoft Paint”. While there are many other sophisticated image editing apps out there, MS Paint will always have a special place in our hearts especially for those of us who just want to use a super basic and simple image editing app.

Well, it appears that the technology giant has taken notice of the widespread outpouring of grief from their users and explained that “MS Paint is here to stay” on one of their recent blog posts. Woohoo! Fans everywhere, rejoice!
They clarified this by saying that while MS Paint won’t come pre-installed in Windows anymore, users still have the option to download it for free from the Windows Store. Megan Saunders, the General Manager, 3D for Everyone Initiative, Windows Experiences said,

“MS Paint is here to stay, it will just have a new home soon, in the Windows Store where it will be available for free.”
She adds, “Today, we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of support and nostalgia around MS Paint. If there’s anything we learned, it’s that after 32 years, MS Paint has a lot of fans. It’s been amazing to see so much love for our trusty old app.”
“So, thanks for all the MS Paint love, keep the feedback coming via the Paint 3D app, and keep creating!”
Phew, what a relief! At least another iconic feature from our childhood is saved!
