In a statement posted by JPJ yesterday, it was announced that motorcycles and private vehicle owners whose road taxes have expired not more than 36 months ago can have their taxes renewed without having to undergo a checkup at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Center (PUSKPAKOM). However, those who have road taxes that surpassed the three-year expiration mark are still subjected to the inspection. Vehicle owners can renew their taxes online using MySikap transactions.

Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, the Minister of Transport said the government made this decision after taking into consideration the multiple requests raised by vehicle owners to give some leniency as not many are in the financial position to pay for their inspections, given the pandemic.

Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, Minister of Transport.

“Vehicle owners whose road tax or LKM has expired less than three years or 36 months ago can proceed with the renewal process,” said the minister in a statement recorded by BERNAMA.

According to the minister’s records, there were more than 4.27 million vehicles that have expired road taxes between the range of one to three years.

As for the 70% discount off all traffic summons valid till 30 September, Wee encourages Malaysians to pay their summons online as he still finds many citizens making these payments at the counter.

That’s a load off for drivers and motorists! What do you guys think?
