Many of us Malaysians love to buy things on the Internet as we can get the best deals and variety. It’s also a plus point that things get sent to our house and we don’t need to make a trip just to get certain things.
However, it seems that because of this, many scammers are now trying to scam innocent people by pretending they are the authorities and saying that the parcels contain illicit materials.
The most recent scam tactic is where scammers pretended to be from the Ministry of Home Affairs and sent an email to unsuspecting Malaysians.
In the sample email shown by the ministry, the scammers claim that you have an outstanding postage bill that needs to be cleared off before they send the parcel to you.
They also attach a tracking number for you to use on their bogus site where you will be asked to pay a small fee.
Well, both the Ministry of Home Affairs and PDRM have asked everyone to dispose of emails like that if they come across them.
The Ministry also confirmed that they will not seek third parties to act on their behalf. They urged everyone to be careful when doing their online transactions.
Remember to always check the sender’s email addresses or phone numbers when you receive scam emails and calls!
