If you’re looking to make some money, you might wanna check your kitchen for used oil that has yet to be discarded. This is your chance to make some money by recycling.
The Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities of Malaysia, Johari Abdul Ghani revealed on his X post @joharighani, and said that PETRONAS is interested in buying your used cooking oil for RM3 for every 1 KG.
“This is an initiative between the Ministry and PETRONAS, and we’re targeting to collect 300,000kg of used oil this year.”
The main target for this initiative is the vendors at the Ramadhan Bazaars but the public can also participate by giving their used cooking oil for some money. The vendors at these selected bazaars can save their trip to any PETRONAS gas station, as the Ministry will be launching the programme at the locations below.

Less greenhouse gas emissions
According to Johari, the initiative is not just about a “side income” opportunity for the public but also a form of love for nature.
“This is a proactive step we take to commercialise Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in the aviation industry.”
Not only that but the vendor will also have a proper source to “discard” their used cooking oil, and not the drain.
“No more throwing your used cooking oil into the drain, at the garbage dispose area, the sink in your house which will pollute the waterways. This is also a form of support for the production of sustainable fuel in Malaysia, and an effort to protect the environment.”
The greenhouse gas is no joke as it can cause changes in the climate. According to National Geographic, it causes climate change by trapping heat and puts our health at risk through respiratory diseases when the air is polluted.
