Based on our achievements in the management of the Covid-19 pandemic, in which our country successfully contained the spread of the virus after a lengthy battle, the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has reviewed the current standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place.

Following their review, they’ve made some changes.

Taking to their Twitter account, MOH announced that face masks will no longer be mandatory but encouraged starting July 5 (Wednesday) when riding on public transportation.

Despite this, face masks are still mandatory for Covid-19 patients and while visiting hospitals and health facilities.

It is also highly encouraged for senior citizens, those with chronic illnesses, those with low immunity, pregnant women and those with respiratory symptoms to wear face masks, especially in crowded or low-ventilation spaces.

Meanwhile, the general public, though not mandatory, is urged to wear a face mask while commuting in public transportation such as public buses, LRTs, MRTs, aeroplanes, taxis, e-hailing vehicles and more.

Malaysia has been under a Movement Control Order (MCO) since 2020 due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic before entering the Endemic Transition Phase on April 1 of last year.
