Everyday we hear stories of how our brave medical frontliners are doing all that they can to treat as many patients as possible to fight the viral outbreak in our country. As the number of cases keep rising, it’s become apparent that they need our help now, more than ever. If you’ve always wondered how you could help fight the Covid-19 pandemic, here’s your chance!

KKM (Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia), known also as the Ministry of Health, is now taking in volunteers to help control this growing virus. In their Facebook post, KKM said,

“This message is to extend our volunteer service to medical experts, medical officers, nurses, assistant medical officers and others, who want to help KKM in dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak by helping in a wide range of services.”

Among the tasks that KKM will require participants to do are:

  • Run fever screenings in the at public health institutions (or facilities) such as health clinics, district health clinics, KLIA and other authorised locations.
  • Running tasks in the hospital with cases that include:

a) Handling patients in other (non-Covid-19) wards which include medical, orthopedic, surgical and other departments to ease the traffic of patients flooding into Covid-19 designated hospitals.

b) Handling Covid-19 cases if you’re an experienced health expert or medical officer (but these are also subject to a number of requirements).

KKM added that anyone interested in volunteering for these positions will need the approval of their department or employer head before joining the task force.

And of course, because you’ll directly be dealing with someone else’s health, you’ll also have to meet the following requirements to be considered eligible for the position:

  1.  Under a professional body that directly deals with the registered field.
  2. Must be in a healthy physical condition (no uncontrollable/terminal health issues).
  3. No history of visiting high-risk Covid-19 countries or be in close proximity with someone who tested positive over the last 14 days before duty.
