For those of you out there shopping for your household medical supplies, you may want to take note of this piece of news! According to Berita Harian and China Press, a certain brand of medicinal plasters sold throughout many pharmacies nationwide may actually be poisonous!

In a report that was recently released by the Ministry of Health, the Pak Li brand of medicinal plasters has been determined to be poisonous after it was found to contain a controlled substance called Diphenhydramine.

For those of you who are not familiar with what Diphenhydramine is, Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine mainly used to treat allergies. But apparently according to the director of the Ministry of Health, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, this chemical is not allowed to be used in combination with traditional formulations for commercial sale.

The distribution of Diphenhydramine is strictly governed by the Poisonous Substances Act of 1952 and can only be obtained from doctors or by prescription with a pharmacist.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that the sale of ‘Pak Li Medicinal Plaster’ must be stopped immediately at all retail outlets as it goes against the Sale of Drugs Act 1952 and Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984.

Retailers who continue selling these medicinal plasters may face a fine of not more than RM50,000 or jail time of not more than five years, if found guilty.

For those of you who have the product in your possession and have been using it, you are advised to stop immediately. If you feel that you are suffering from side effects attributed to the use of these medicinal plasters, contact a healthcare professional immediately.

So if you or your family members are using this brand of medicinal plasters, stop immediately!
