If you thought the worst was over, don’t hold your breath.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) is preparing for a possible spike in Covid-19 infections as we head into the last four months of 2020.

Health Director-General, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah warned the public that while Malaysia’s Covid-19 infection rate is currently under control, there have been worrying developments in other countries like Korea, Japan, Spain, France and India who saw an increase in cases with cold weather conditions.

“So our concern is that there would be an increase in cases during that period and we have to make preparations for that,” said Dr Noor Hisham in a statement recorded by BERNAMA at Dataran Pahlawan Negara today after National Day celebrations (31 August).

The Health D-G added that Covid-19’s mutations have made it more infectious. Hence, the public should always strictly comply with SOPs. As there is still no proven vaccine that is accessible, control measures will be continuously put in place to monitor the situation.

“On our part, we will prepare the laboratories, clinics, and hospitals in which if there is a case surge we would be able to control the situation. However, we still need strong cooperation from the people to break the chain of Covid-19,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

Stay safe and physically distance yourselves!
