With the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the country, a few states have already been flagged as red zones. The Ministry of Higher Education wants students coming from red zones to postpone their return for the new semester this October.
The red zones mentioned are mostly areas in Sabah and one in Peninsular Malaysia. The exact locations are Tawau, Semporna, Lahad Datu, Kunak, and Kota Setar. The red zones were updated by the KKM on their official Twitter page.
According to Bernama, the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad, said that the registration and learning process for the affected students could be done online. However, for students who are not from the red zones, they would continue to register during the specified dates as stated in the academic calendar of the respective institution.
She also said institutions of higher learning (IPT) has been instructed to ensure that the implementation of academic activities on campus is in compliance with the SOPs. The official announcement of the postponement has been uploaded by the ministry on their official Facebook page.
