Well, this certainly isn’t the way to discipline a mischievous child.
A report by Coconuts revealed that a nine-year-old Buddhist apprentice recently died after he was brutally assaulted by an old monk for disrupting a prayer session with his “playful” behaviour.
The 64-year-old monk, Suphachai Suthiyano used a bamboo stick and repeatedly whacked the young disciple, Wattanapol Sisawad, at a temple in Kanchanaburi, Bangkok, Thailand.

After striking him several times on his back, the old monk then slammed the poor boy’s head into a pillar. Oh dear, that could seriously injure his skull.
As a result of that brutal assault, the young novice fell into a coma and lost his life last Thursday (23 August 2018), according to a hospital worker in Kanchanaburi provincial hospital.

The report further stated that the old monk was arrested and charged for assaulting the poor boy. Following his arrest, the monk was also deprived of his title. Rightly so!
According to police captain Amnaj Chunbult, the monk’s charge will be revised to “assault resulting in death” when he gets the confirmation from the higher authorities.

Meanwhile, the boy’s poor mum, Sukunya Tunhim, said that she “will not forgive him (the monk)”. I could only imagine her pain.
As of now, the boy’s corpse has been reclaimed by his relatives after an official from the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the National Police Office, Bangkok confirmed that an autopsy has taken place.

We extend our deepest condolences to the boy’s mother and his family as they go through this grievous situation. We also hope that justice will be served for the boy’s death and the guilty will be quickly prosecuted.
