If the steady downward trend of Covid-19 cases keep up, we might be seeing the re-opening of more industries and sectors by the first week of June.

In the Ministry of Health’s live telecast yesterday, Health Director-General, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said sectors, including schools, can reopen if Malaysia continues to show low Covid-19 figures. Our country recorded its lowest daily figure for Covid-19 cases in over two months yesterday with just 10 testing positive for the virus.

However, the ministry has expressed their concern for the impact the post-Raya season might leave.

“The success of the conditional movement control order (MCO) over the past 24 days can be seen in the number of cases. But the ministry is still concerned about the impact of the festive season, which we will see in the first week of June,” added the Health DG in a statement recorded by the Star.

Nonetheless, Dr Noor Hisham reminds the public that any changes made will be done with caution, “We are very cautious before we make changes to our policies. By 9th June, we should be able to make a decision. If the low number of cases can still be sustained by then, taking into account the festive season-we can proceed to open more of the social and education sectors.”

Currently, there is an increase in the infection rate among immigrants who entered the country illegally.

However, the current issue facing the authorities is the increase in infection rate among illegal immigrants at the Immigration Department depots.

If we can handle both (locals and immigrants), if we can do so, then we can bring down the cases. The decision will be made in June and we will see if the festive season has any impact on Malaysians. But if Malaysians comply with our standard operating procedure, then we can continue to have lower double-digit or single-digit cases,” said Dr Noor Hisham in a statement recorded by Malay Mail.

The CMCO is organised to last until 9th June, provided the government doesn’t announce another extension by then.

Hopefully, this trend of low cases continue! Stay safe, guys.
